Block “No Caller ID” calls

Has this issue been fixed with the iPhone 16 lineup?

Apple support incorrectly advised the 15 had done so but it seems impossible to block “No Caller ID” calls without also silencing calls not in your contacts list.

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 17

Apple makes the phone. Apple doesn't control or deliver calls which are directed to your phone. Apple does offer a feature to silence unknown callers, but that in no way blocks the call from being delivered to your phone, as it's not up to Apple to provide such a feature. It simply means the phone won't ring if the number is not in your contacts list.

It IS up to your carrier to help you block such numbers if you want. So, what did you carrier suggest when you asked them for help?

Did you contact your Carrier?

It's important to note that iPhone's built-in blocking features cannot block calls with hidden numbers or those using spoofed Caller ID. These are often robocalls or spam calls.

Here's what you can do for those types of calls:

  • Silence Unknown Callers: While not blocking, iOS offers a feature to silence calls from unknown numbers. Go to Settings > Phone and turn on Silence Unknown Callers. This will send calls from non-saved numbers directly to voicemail, offering some peace from unwanted calls.
  • Report to Carrier: The most effective way to deal with these calls is to report them to your carrier. Most carriers provide options to report spam calls through their app, website, or by calling customer service. Reporting helps them identify and potentially block these numbers in the future.
