Cannot disable SIP in recovery mode

Since updating to 14.6.1, my extensions cannot be activated anymore. Upon 3rd party advice tried to disable SIP in terminal (recovery mode), however I then get this error.

Can someone describe what this error means?

Mac mini, macOS 14.6

The operating system is on a code-signed, read-only volume and SIP has no power there now. Any older application kernel extensions installed in /System/Library/Extensions are now trapped there and cannot be removed short of a clean install.
