New here. I want safari to open with the tabs that were open during the last session.
I went to safari>settings and chose "All windows from last session" for "Safari opens with"
I thought that would do it. But nope.

So, I'm new to Mac. I used Windows during my career (retired now). I know that clicking the red dot x does not quit the program/app. I thought I was okay pressing the red dot x, followed by pressing on the icon in the tray, and choosing Quit from the menu that shows up over the icon.
For some reason (or no reason?) pressing command Q to quit Safari is different from what I mentioned above. If I press command Q to quit, then when I open Safari - sure enough, my previous session is restored!
So I will always use command Q to quit Safari.

Make sure "Close windows when quitting an application" is disabled in System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Windows.
You're welcome. The red dot closes the window so nothing gets saved. When you just quit Safari, as you found out, everything is preserved. Thanks, glad you like it. :)
Thank you @dialabrain, but that didn't work. I disabled it, then restarted my mbp. It would have taken me quite a while to find that tab, so thanks again. Anything else you can think of? I left it disabled.
You're welcome. Sorry, that's all I can think of. Whenever I quit Safari or restart my Macs with Safari open, whatever tabs I had open are open when I restart my Macs or Safari.
