Airpods pro (2nd gen) same as Airpods pro 2?

Are these really the same product and it's just a new software update? Seems like there's conflicting info floating around on if they are really the same and Apple just changed the name (slightly) and released a software update, or if they are actually different. It even seems like stores are using model/UPC #'s that are the same between the two versions.

Apple hasn’t changed the name.

AirPods Pro 2 - Technical Specifications - Apple

Apple always called them Airrpods Pro 2.

The 2 stands for 2nd generation.

They were released in 2022.

The only hardware change was to the case in 2023, lightning port was replaced by usb c.

Interesting, right after I posted this I thought "Oh just ask Apple Support" so I got on a chat with them and was quickly told that this question has come up a lot since the release and there are definitely hardware differences between the older "Airpods Pro (Gen 2)" and "new" Airpods Pro 2, though they could not detail any of the differences for me. Clearly even Apple's support people can't keep them strait. :)

It seems they definitely have not always called them "Airpods Pro 2" as you can find older spec sheets from Apple calling them "Airpods Pro (2nd generation).

Either way I appreciate getting the correct info here! I was thinking of upgrading from Airpods Pro to the "new" ones but since they aren't actually new, I'll wait for the next version.
