Transferring edited pictures from iPhone to Mac

I have a Mac Studio running the latest OS, and a iPhone 15 Pro Max also up to date. For the 1st time I edited a bunch of pictures on my iPhone before transferring them to my Mac. Usually I edit them on the Mac. I'm talking about simple edits like cropping and rotating.

However, the UNEDITED ORIGINAL photos are the ones that have transferred, not the EDITED ones.

I use a USB-C cable to transfer pictures. I do not use the PHotos app at all - I have my pictures saved in various folders. I do not use iCloud to transfer pictures. I use Image Capture.

.AAE files are also transferred along with the edited photos and appear in my picture folder.

Is this a known bug, or am I doing something wrong? Would this also happen if I used iCloud to transfer the photos?

Any advice greatly appreciated before I re-edit all the photos on my Mac again. Thank you.

Mac Studio, macOS 14.6
