The equal to (=) sign on my Macbook Air M2 works fine but when I press Shift for the same key, the plus sign (+) wouldn’t appear. I have tried two options: 1) Using an alternate testuser login where the keys worked fine 2) I used Mac in recovery mode - there as well it worked fin. What can be done to resolve the issue?

Yes it is working fine in the Safe mood too. I had contacted Apple Support, they suggested to reinstall macOS. It seems a a bit time-consuming task and I would need to invest in an external drive for backup etc etc. Is it the only way? And even so, would it guarantee positive results for my issue?
