You already have AI on your device to perform many tasks, that is exactly what Machine Learning is. Some of these features such as Object Detection are available on your device and not on earlier devices such as the iPhone X for the same reason you see now. The iPhone 12 has only 4 GB of RAM – half as much as the iPhones that are scheduled to get Apple Intelligence. Same for the iPhone 12 mini.
Those phones originally shipped with iOS 14.1, so I'm guessing that they are going to get iOS 19 – based on the history of many older iPhones getting five major version updates. But Apple Intelligence – seems doubtful.
