In Keynote for Mac, I can not play an mp3 file (the same file) on more than one slide.

In Keynote, I want to play a single MP3 file on multiple slides as a sound effect. When I drag the file to each slide, it seems to insert the file fine. When I play the presentation, only the first encounter with the sound plays. Even if I start part-way through the presentation, the sound plays on THAT slide, but not successive slides. I have tried to duplicate the sound file and give it a different name for successive slides, but that does not work either. Anyone have an idea or workaround?

I had the same problem - wanting to play the same sound on 5 slides. It only worked after I alternated .mp3 and .wav files. I.e. slide 1 .mp3, slide 2 .wav, slide 3 .mp3, etc.

It was always the same audio file, but is seems the file type needs to be different each slide (or at least alternate).
