No Extended Displays for VisionOS 2 Out of the Gate

So I downloaded VisionOS 2 this morning first thing in the hopes that it would fix one major issue (the constant disconnections of the virtual keyboard/trackpad from my MacBook) and add the major feature I was looking for (extended and even immersive virtual displays from said MacBook). Sadly, the former still occurred within 30 minutes of the update and happened 3 more times today already and the later was confirmed to be available "later this year" when I called Apple Support. I cannot believe a major marquis feature of the upgrade is not included. Sadly the below picture will remain just out of reach....

First issue: I occasionally have the disconnect issue, but nothing like what you describe. Most frequently it occurs when my laptop goes to sleep, but other times there is no obvious cause. I assume this is not the cause of your issue, but wanted to bring it up just in case. The “unexplained” disconnect may occur once every few hours, but usually self-corrects within a minute. I have a laptop with a M1 processor, so not sure if another processor (e.g. Intel) could cause more issues (Honestly, I’m not even certain if this feature works with an Intel Mac). I suppose it could also be related to your wifi/router.

Second issue: Apple has stated for months that the ultra-wide display feature would not be available on day one. However, I probably follow Apple closer than the average person and their marketing division may not have been as transparent for the casual observer.

Don’t despair… time passes! Try to enjoy the other new features while you wait. :)

Thank you, I am glad they now have the "later this year..." caveat to the announcement on VisionOS2.

As for the near constant disconnection of the keyboard/trackpad input that continues to mar every hour of my attempted work effort on the VisionPro, it has made it impossible to utilize it for a full day's work. I will be in the middle of typing out an email or processing a Teams message and it will simply stop working. I glance back at my virtual display to see the "input temporarily disconnected" error at the top and I have to wait sometimes minutes for it to disappear and reconnect, completely disrupting my workflow. Once a day would not be a huge issue, but 3-5 times a hour is not feasible.

Now my VisionPro sits next to my desk in the hopes that is issue can actually be resolved. PS - I am on a MacBook Pro M3 from Novemeber 2023, so this is not an issue of backwards compatibility. I bought the laptop with the VisionPro for this very use case.

Yeah… that sounds really bad. Here are a few thoughts:

- Are you by chance using iPhone mirroring on your Mac? I find that I have problem establishing a connection between the AVP and Mac if iPhone mirroring is active on the Mac.

- I am unsure if the AVP and Mac make a direct wifi connection while in display mode, or if they communicate through the local network (someone here probably knows). If the latter, it’s possible your router settings may be the issue. Have you tried this on another network to see if you still have the issue?

- Have you called AppleCare about this issue? I suspect the “First Line” support person may be unhelpful, but you can ask to talk to a “Level 2” support person if the first person can’t resolve the issue. I’ve done this multiple times with difficult issues.
