Failed to personalize software update Macbook Pro M3 Sequoia

Unable to update to sequoia through settings software update or
sudo softwareupdate -i -a -R as I get the above error message each time.
Restarting, rebooting, safe mopde, reinstalling from recovery, none of these have worked.

I got the message as well and with some strange logging message that says:

MSU_ERR_BOOTPOLICY_FAILURE

After searching the internet, different options where shown. But for me only these steps worked:

  • Create a new Admin account (without connection with appleId)
  • Stop Find My Mac
  • Logout of AppleID in main Admin Account
  • Logout of main Admin Account
  • Login newly created Admin account (step 1)
  • Update to Seqouia
  • After update login with main Admin account
  • Connect to AppleID
  • Turn on Find My Mac
