How much storage is required for iOS 18?

My phone has a total of 64 GB of storage.

I’ve offloaded nearly all my apps and also deleted a couple. My phone originally said the upgrade was 7.08 GB, and so did the 17.7 update, so I figured just skip the 17.7 and do the iOS 18, so I freed up the necessary space for 7.08 GB. It then said I had enough space for the 17.7, but not the 18. I decided to just do the 17.7 and then see if I could try to get iOS 18 after the update, and when my phone finished updating to 17.7, I checked the “upgrade to iOS 18” and the storage it said it needed CHANGED TO 14.71 GB. UM WHY????

Also, the update for 17.7 on my mother’s (iPhone 14 with 128 GB) and sister’s (iPhone 12 with 64 GB, same as mine) phones said the update was about 716 MB while the iOS 18 was about 4 GB.

My main question is why do both of those updates on my phone require more storage than theirs if it is the SAME UPDATE ROLLED OUT TO EVERYONE?? Even if it has something to do with all the stuff I have on my phone, it is all offloaded now, so …??? And, even regardless of THAT too, I don’t understand why it says iOS 18 is literally nearly 15 GB like what….????

My storage is now 53.87 GB and I literally have no idea what else to offload/delete.

Hey, Problem solved after reading this thread. Weeks ago I updated to 17.7 and it offered me 18. I have an iPhone 11 , 64 GB. But I had 6.71GB of free space and it said I needed 13.7. For weeks I have been trying to figure out what to do and it sounded like my problem may be even worse than I tought after reading of the issues that many here were having,

But I just did the update using iTunes and my PC and I only lost 1 GB or so of space.., It was easy as pie. I never use iTunes but had it on my Windows 10 desktop, I updated the program, plugged in the USB and it offered me the update, It may have taken half an hour and all the while my phone was still showing that it would not update while on Itunes I could see that it was downloading then preparing and then installing. So thanks for the help and now I will take a quick look at iOS 18.1. My wife is bugging me to go to bed as it is 3:23 am

I’m not impressed with anything about iOS 18. I’ve had to completely delete every single app to make room for this gigantic update. I’ve reset the iPad deleted all the apps and it’s still not enough room.

Then there’s iOS 18 for Apple TV-another disaster. Remote is now glitchy. Volume is all over the place depending on what service you’re using to stream. Some are so loud and others you have to move the volume up to high just to hear. Then the ‘up next’ feature is virtually worthless as it doesn’t keep track of anything anymore.

not impressed apple. Your technology is lacking. None of your updates ever get better they just move everything to different places with new areas to get lost.

we are all not technological geeks that want to spend every waking minute trying to discover something new.

Things that used to work don’t. Things I used to be able to find I can’t. To me for the average user this is a big FAIL.

You aren't writing Apple here. This is a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't participate nor read for user feedback.

I've personally had NO issues with iOS 18 or 18.0.1 at all.

Same on my 11- says 12GB is required and iv deleted every possible app and personal data and still says I need 11.8 GBs to download... How much space is taken from iOS @DJIMaster? On my pixel, the newest version of Android is 10GBs- hard to believe iOS that would range that much higher in required space, comparatively speaking 🤷‍♂️ but I could be wrong- they are vary different OS' - but you can see what route I went 😬
