According to Apple's official announcement.

The Phone app helps users stay organized with the ability to record and transcribe live calls, making it easier to recall important details later.3 Call participants are notified before a recording begins, and transcripts are conveniently saved to the Notes app, allowing users to quickly search and review what was discussed.

In the footnotes it says: Call recording and transcription will be available later this year. Transcription will be available in English (U.S., Australia), Spanish (U.S., Mexico), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland), Cantonese (Hong Kong), and Korean (South Korea).

Apple Beta — FAQ

Apple has not publicly disclosed technical information about the features. All they have released is an overview of the features, which is why some users are met with the standard response that it has not been released yet when wanting to ask how something is going to work or want to discuss the features.

I disagree with you on this. Apple has publicly disclosed a detailed description of how the feature will work:

"The Phone app helps users stay organized with the ability to record and transcribe live calls, making it easier to recall important details later.4 Call participants are notified before a recording begins, and transcripts are conveniently saved to the Notes app, allowing users to quickly search and review what was discussed."

Link to Apple's announcement here.

Also, the feature was announced by Craig Federighi during WWDC 2024 (at around the 1:35:56 mark) where he showed screenshots of how the feature will work, and that the recording, summary, and transcription will be saved to the Notes app. He also mentioned that participants of the call will be notified so that "no one is surprised".

I think this is definitely "technical" enough to make this information no longer confidential, and we should be able to freely discuss it here.

Call recording is built-in to the iPhone with iOS 18. When on a call, just tap the record button in the top left corner of the screen. A audible notification will play, letting both parties know the call is being recorded. After the call, you can find the recording in the Notes app.

Whenever my mom (age 89 - barely understands how to make a phone call on an iPhone much less do anything else) calls me I now get the "call is being recorded" announcement. Every time. She has no idea why or how to turn it off and I have had no luck walking her through turning it off.

This feature is awful and appears to be on by default on her phone. How to disable it permanently?

It's a great feature that many people love, but you can easily turn it off. Just go to Settings -> Apps -> Phone -> Call Recording and turn it OFF.

Is there a way to download the recorded call ? I can't find it in the phone, and can't share the notes with the audio file. Where is the audio file ? I work in french, so I would need the audio file to put it in a transcription software.
Thanks!

Tap on the call audio in the note (as if you were going to play it), then tap on the yellow circle with three dots in it in the top right corner. From there you can tap Share Audio or Save Audio to Files.
