Error in downloading mail on IMAP after ios 18 upgrade

I’m getting the same problem, but I had this problem way before IOS 18.

I have Hotmail as my main email account—have for decades. Lately, the mail app on my iPhone Willy Nilly decides my password is incorrect and stops receiving and sending mail. I use the same password I have been using since I changed it earlier this year and sometimes it gets my mail working and sometimes it doesn’t. Oddly enough, the mail app on my iPad doesn’t behave this way, logging on to Outlook via a browser to access my mail doesn’t have a problem—it’s just on my phone mail app. I’m at a loss as to how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m getting: Network Error POSIX 96

I have the same problem (Network error POSIX 96). The emails do not download and refresh correctly through the native Mail app. Sometimes, they do download but I am unable to open the content of the email. I have contacted the local provider of my email and I have been informed that the issue is on Apple side. When will this be fixed? This is a serious issue. :(

I get POSIX 61 on BTinternet. This is a huge issue, we carry our phones with us and they are also authentication devices be it via MFA, text or MAIL - this is a big problem since updating to iOS 18.0.1 which I installed yesterday and have since had this issue.

Apple - is there a fix coming soon please?

But you indicated earlier that you fixed it on your dovecot server. What did you do?

May be i can help you to fix if you share the truncated logs while accessing Mail app to your server.

I saw nothing interesting in IMAP logs on dovecot server. I see the login with no error, and no errors following.

Not set to debug, but I think it will be less effort to wait until Apple fixes iOS mail.

I am unable to download my mail using the native mail app after upgrading to IOS 18. I am getting the following error; “Unable to create a secure connection to the server ("bad certificate format -9.808).”

The mail configuration is on imap with SSL and TLS.

That's very discouraging news. Last month I had to roll back my iPhone to 17.6.1 after ios18 was automatically installed. I've been eager to try the first round of Apple Intelligence but I'm not willing to forego the ability to access my email.

However, I find it strange that Apple is now looking at your iPhone individually in detail.

Has Apple still not realised that thousands of users worldwide have been experiencing these Apple Mail problems since the update to iOS 18? This is not an individual problem of a single iPhone! My German mail provider has also confirmed to me that it must be an Apple error. He rules out the possibility of a fault with himself or the phone provider. Best regards from Berlin!

for your information. I had the same issue what is discussed here in my old dovcot setup while i was moving to iOS18, and i got its fixed by solving the issues in my dovecot settings.

I’ve been having the same problem. And it’s been going on for probably two years on and off. My email works just fine on my computer and my iPad but not my phone. I have a Comcast email account and sometimes I get a massive dump of emails and then other times it just says incorrect password and I can’t get anything for days. And then all of a sudden it will work for two weeks or six months and then it will happen again. Nobody can seem to fix the problem.
