I am unable to play different music on separate HomePods, using Apple Music.

I have an Apple Music subscription and multiple Homepods in the house. As an example, if I am playing hard rock in the kitchen and my wife wants to play easy listening in the upstairs bathroom in the meantime, my music in the kitchen is cut off. It seems that both should be able to play independently of one another.

that unfortunately by design it seems

to play apple music on more than 1 device at the time requires a family subscription

Get an Apple Music family subscription - Apple Support

suppose their logic is if it worked with the normal subscription then fewer would invest in the family version
