Often when I call someone in my family, their iPhone 15 goes straight to voicemail. I've asked them to do a restart on the iphone 15. this makes the problem go away for a short time then the issue resurface. They have just upgraded to iOs 17.7 and I said ok turn off the phone now. and turn it back on. I called and it didnt go to voicemail this time. They dont use any of those 'focus' silence modes. The cell phone service isnt spotty in their house.

Understanding the Problem:

It seems like your family members' iPhones are going straight to voicemail even when they're available. This could be due to a few factors.

Potential Solutions:

  1. Check Carrier Settings:
    • Ensure that their carrier settings are up-to-date. This can sometimes resolve network-related issues.
    • Go to Settings > General > About > Carrier. If an update is available, tap on Update.
  1. Verify Do Not Disturb (DND) Settings:
    • Double-check their DND settings. Even if they're not using "Focus" modes, DND can be activated accidentally.
    • Go to Settings > Focus. Ensure that DND is turned off or that their current focus mode doesn't include blocking calls.
  1. Check Call Forwarding Settings:
    • Verify that call forwarding is not accidentally enabled.
    • Go to Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding. Ensure it's turned off.
  1. Reset Network Settings:
    • This can help resolve network-related issues.
    • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  1. Check for App Conflicts:
    • Some apps can interfere with phone calls. Try disabling recently installed apps temporarily to see if the issue persists.
  1. Contact Apple Support:
    • If none of the above solutions work, it might be a hardware or software issue. Contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Additional Tips:

  • Test with Other Contacts: Try calling them from a different number or using a different device to see if the issue is specific to your calls.
  • Check for Carrier Outage: Verify if there are any reported carrier outages in their area.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue causing your family members' iPhone 15s to go straight to voicemail.

I can only relate my personal experience, but my wife and I experienced the same issue. Her call’s to me almost always came right through. Mine to her, almost always went to voicemail. I’m a former Apple Retail Store Manager and know the devices and settings. I repeatedly checked our settings and updated devices, but nothing worked. i finally decided to switch carriers and the issue disappeared overnight. Just my personal experience.

How do you fix this issue? It's back again today. My family member says they see a pattern.... an hour ago they sent a call straight to voicemail on purpose. And then I called this family member an hour after that, and they didnt send me straight to voicemail but what I heard on my end of the phone was after one ring it went straight to voicemail. Family member thinks this voicemail bug is happening to subsequent calls after the first intentional 'send to voicemail' call
