How do I connect my iMac to my Apple TV with HDMI?
I bought an adapter to connect my hdmi cable to my imac; I cannot seem to connect nor use the remote
any suggestions please 🙏🏻

You can’t. It doesn’t work that way. The Mac (with adapter) has HDMI-out, not HDMI-in.
For the iMac screen, you’ll have to use apps or browser access to streaming services.
You can connect the Apple TV box (HDMI-out) to a TV [or monitor or projector] that has HDMI-in.
