I have just upgraded my 2018 Mac Mini to MacOS 15 Sequoia.
Since 2019 it has always backed up to a folder called TMFolder on a Synology DS413j.
( My partner's Mini also backs up to the same NAS, but hers is still on Sonoma. Her backups still run successfully. )
Every time Time Machine on my Mini tries to backup to the NAS now, it reports:
The backup will fail anywhere between one and five minutes after starting.

Add-on security apps have a very long history of introducing issues and errors and noise, yes.
Still got the issue, quite persistent this one (since macOS 12). Have installed macOS 15.1.1 (on a brand new Mac Mini M4Pro) and latest version of SMB (4.15.13-2321) on DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 1 on a Synology DS923+
I don't use Time Machine but more annoying to me is the constant loss of connection through Finder. Sometimes it just won't connect at all, and in other cases it loses connection (and "resets" to Macintosh HD) while browsing the folders on the NAS. Mostly I can solve this by Relaunching Finder but on occasion I have to reconnect completely.
I still haven't figured out if it is a macOS thing or a Synology SMB thing.
Thanks for confirming that you are seeing similar issues with a newer version of DSM. I don't seem to have it as bad as you. When I'm working on the machine, the share seems to stay, but it's really when going to sleep. I can always reconnect, albeit slowly, which I assume is due to the Synology waking up. Worst is, I'm not seeing any trace in the console of anything.
Interesting. And I should add I am running a Macbook Pro M1 so the macOS 15 for Intel seems suspicious.

Did that. As you said, it took hours to create the sparsebundle, but no interruption. This morning, I found that the incremental backups failed "because some files were not available"...
Update: No. 15.0.1 did not solve the problem. The problem re-occurred today.

I found the same error in the logs. I've disabled the widget and the error hasn't reappeared, but I need to observe it for a while longer.

WTF network connection should work with all kinds of versions of smb. Even the share on my macmini (sequoia) is unstable/not working with my MBPM1.

I forgot to say my Time Machine is on an external disk, not NAS. Still needed full Disk Access, but presumably not needed firewall disabled.
