EDIT: It seems that at least MY issue is related to iCloud Drive!

I just recently updated to Sequoia and am having major Finder freezing issues, including any application open/save dialogs, Finder window searches, and general navigation. ANY of these actions are immediately followed by a 15-30 second delay, often while showing the Spinning Pinwheel of Death (SPOD).

Drag-and-Drop is a whole other issue, as the selected files are never released when un-clicking the mouse (which makes Force Quitting the Finder almost impossible.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Rebooted (no change)
  2. Repaired disk Permissions (no problems)
  3. Relaunched Finder (no change)
  4. Checked if Spotlight Is indexing (it's not)
  5. Checked disk space (plenty)
  6. Delete the Finder Preferences File (no change)
  7. Rebooted in Safe Mode (It actually seemed worse!)
  8. Booted into Recovery Mode and reinstalled the OS (no change)
  9. Turned off System Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Drive > Sync this Mac (PROBLEM GONE!)

In my case the freezing (with all apps while choosing file to open or folder to save…) was not caused by iCloud drive. Turning off iCloud sync and even logging off from iCloud did nothing even after restarting the app and Finder and even after few reboot. As problem was still due to a cloud issue (I sync with iCloud, Onedrive, Google Drive and Dropbox) I checked them one by one. The problem suddenly disapeared when I did a clean uninstall (loging off, deleting files with AppCleaner +manually deleting folders in ~/Library/) reboot and reinstall of all Onedrive account I had previously synced on this computer. Even if Apple have to definitively patch Sequoia properly, how can it be anything else than yet another issue due Microsoft.

As iCloud and onedrive can provoke this bug I think all cloud sync app could do it and a clean fresh install of one (or more) of them might solve the problem.

Unfortunately for me, turning the iCloud sync for Mail OFF is just not an option - I use 5 different Apple devices and need my email synced to all of them.

It also doesn't freeze every time for me when I am sending attachments - it will go along happily for quite a while and then lock up out of the blue, requiring a Mail force quit - and then it's ok for a bit. Not sure if dragging the attachment from the Finder to the Mail window works any better - since I'm not seeing consistent behaviour, it's hard to test this as an option unless I do that every time.

Sooo many darn bugs with this release - I normally never update early, but did this time and now regret it. :(
