Why can't I schedule messages to Android users on iPhone?

As someone who switched to Apple a few years back, I was incredibly excited for the “send later” function (which other brands have had for ages). I update my phone yesterday and go to schedule a message to someone who has an android and realize the functionality only applies to other iPhone users?! Please tell me this is a bug or a glitch?!

Are you freaking kidding me!!! I’ve been waiting for months for this update so that my phone can do what my family’s android phones have been doing forever only to find out I can only schedule texts for other iPhones!!! This is beyond ridiculous!!!

Also this is coming from someone who literally will use short-cuts to do all sorts of weird things, like trigger flashlights and music whenever an alarm goes off, and write a script to run with a mail rule in order send an iMessage if I get a specific email lol

I've lost track of the thread a bit! But if I remember right, I was annoyed that I couldn't schedule-send texts to myself.

Those messages are usually fairly long to-do lists and things like that. The ADHD part of my brain responds really well to both the initial notification--AND to the messages' reappearance every time I'm in the messages app (which is often). So for now, I'm just messaging myself without the scheduling function. I'll check out what apple reminders has to offer. I do use Google calendar for simple reminders, but not so much for longer messages to myself. Thanks.

Oh, I just replied to someone else about this (if this was to me). The messages in question are usually pretty long to-do lists and things like that. My ADHD brain responds really well to both the initial alert, AND to seeing the message every time I'm in the messages app (which is a lot). I use Google calendar for quick reminders. I'll see what apple reminders has to offer. But, for me, there's a lot of value in using an app I'm organically going to a lot already, to send long-ish messages to myself. So I'm just sending without scheduled-send for now. Not as great, but it's workable. Just frustrating that the great and powerful iphone hasn't turned out to be that, in numerous ways, for me.

I’ve been an android user forever. My son convinced me to switch to an iPhone. It’s been about three weeks and I still don’t understand why people think it’s better. This is just another example of something. My android did that my iPhone doesn’t.

People who switch from iPhones to Androids have the same problem. There are things iPhones do that Android phones don't. The same thing happens when switching from Mac to Windows (or vice versa). It's all what you get used to.

Since the introduction of "Send Later" 5 months ago, I have never even used it once to an iPhone user, so apparently we have different priorities.

The only reason I ever used the feature (back in my Android days) was when I wanted the person to get the message at a time I wouldn't be available to see or respond to their response. Mostly a cowardly way of dealing with broken relationships.

I don't have any use for it now. I think there are, though, people out there who believe that a text message demands an instant response so that if they send it now, people will feel obligated to drop everything they are doing and respond. I don't make that assumption. Send it now, let people answer when they can. And it's incumbent on people to put their own phones on silent so notifications don't wake them up.
