How to fix iOS 18 Dynamic Wallpaper Issue?

I have the new iOS 18 dynamic wallpaper set on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I have the 'dynamic' option selected so it should change at various times of the day as per the description on device, have 'pair' selected for the home screen and have 'automatic' selected for appearance. However, only the lock screen ever changes colour or appearance, the home screen stays the same. The only way to change the home screen appearance is to select another wallpaper then change back to the new iOS 18 one which then applies to new colour and shade to the home screen. This has to be done every time the lock screen changes to get the home screen to match.

Has anyone else experienced this? I've removed and added the wallpaper several times, rebooted the phone etc and tried one of the fixed colours rather than dynamic and still get the same problem.

Neither my Lock Screen nor my Home Screen change colour using the dynamic wallpaper in iOS 18 on my iPhone 15. Pro plus and iPads. I have them all set to Dynamic. When I customize, the colours move but once I return to lock and Home Screen, nothing moves!

Same here. I have both Lock Screen & Home Screen set to dynamic ios 18 wallpaper. When I swipe up to unlock, I get the lovely transition to blur the wallpaper but the Home Screen wallpaper doesn’t match the Lock Screen so there’s a horrible ‘pop’ when it switches colours.

I just upgraded my iPhone 13 Pro to 16 Pro and the same issue is on both.

I have the same set up on my iPad with ipadOS 18 but it works fine there.

This must be a bug. Hopefully already fixed for the next update. It’s a minor gripe but still…

As of today, I think I have found a way to “solve” the bug. It is indeed a problem where in my case, even without using dynamic lock, just having an image from a wallpaper I created on a previous iOS to 18, got dimmed/darkened and it was barely visible. Instead of trying to reassign a previous image and selecting an already created wallpaper these are the steps that have helped me to “fix” or skip the bug:

  • Delete the Focus Profile which has X wallpaper assigned. There is no current way to delete a wallpaper.
  • Start from scratch. Create a new focus profile and create a brand new wallpaper. Follow all the steps to create a new wallpaper.
  • Once done, you should see the lock image or dynamic lock working.

note: It doesn’t matter if blur is active for Home Screen and after testing multiple times, it seems to work seamlessly with a brand new created focus profile and wallpaper.

As a developer (not for Apple) I think this may be a versioning issue of wallpapers and focus profiles created before iOS 18.

If this worked for you, vote up so others can “fix” the problem while we wait for a real bug fix.
