Apple CarPlay switching to phone audio

I’ve recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to the new iOS 18 software. Since then I’ve had a couple of issues with Apple car play with my Mazda. The first is that it will randomly connect to the “spoken” audio settings where it only plays out of the driver side door and when adjusting the volume, a microphone instead of music notes appear. Sometimes it fixes itself within a few miles of the drive and sometimes I have to hold the talk button on my steering wheel to activate Siri and then hang up and then it will fix. Sometimes neither fix it. The most recent thing it’s been doing is automatically switching from CarPlay audio through my vehicles speakers to my iPhone’s speakers when I either raise to wake or unlock my phone.. after pressing the lock button on my phone it will return to the vehichle. I can’t find any setting that asks it to do this so I’m assuming it’s a glitch. Especially since the audio input is still indicated as CarPlay.
