Apple Watch battery draining fast after watchOS 11 Update

Finding very heavy battery drain with this update. From 9am to 10am lost 10% battery. Usually at 7pm I would have 65-70% battery left. Sitting at 50% right now.

Terrible battery drain after updating watchOS 11 on apple watch series 7. The apple watch goes from 100% to 84% in less than 1 hours. In 8 hours, the apple watch is running out of charge.  Worst of all, this is using it as normal watch, not playing music, not tracking any sports or activity from workout app, just putting in my wrist to use it as a normal watch.

This is a significant concern, and it seems that Apple isn't addressing it. I often hike for 8-10 hours and previously relied on my watch to track my activities. However, since updating to watchOS 11, the battery now lasts only about 5 hours, which disrupts my hiking records. It is impossible to recharche the battery in the middle of hiking! I am going to have to consider switching to a more reliable device that can sustain a longer battery life.

  • Music app may unexpectedly quit when loading media
  • Battery may drain more quickly than expected
  • Touch screen may be temporarily unresponsive for some Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 users
  • Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face

So update....

Sitting here after reading all of the same comments and some users wondering if Apple has been contacted, I contacted them yesterday (12/8/24) and informed them of the battery drain since the 11.0 and 11.1 update, . I was just aggravated enough. The short version is, they did a diagnostic, checked the hardware, blah blah blah, etc., and there's nothing wrong with the watch. I could send it in for service if I want to but why? I'll be without it for a couple of weeks and they will send it back and say it's working just fine. The point of this additional post it - I implored them to please read the numerous posts on this subject. Twice! They said "noted" and I can only hope that they will listen to us consumers as we, as ****** off as we are, are still making them very, very rich. I think I am finished with this subject unless they put out a patch for us to fix this debacle. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Well that could be a solution.


You cannot expect every user to search the internet for a solution. A user just needs to know what to look for. Perhaps they are looking for something else and come across like-minded people who then completely criticize an Apple watch.


Apple should just prevent this. Such a large company and you pay significantly more for their products that you should not expect. And if there is a problem, they have to solve it without a user having to look something up on the internet.

Unfortunately, this was also the case with iOS 10. You can assume that a watch will last for years without these kinds of problems. Or do they do this on purpose? This was also the case with the iPhone a few years ago?

But now I'm also speculating...

Unless Apple starts paying attention to the numerous posts on this subject, we are all screwed and are wearing bricks on our wrists. I asked for a Christmas upgrade, but now, reading that even the newest watches are experiencing this drain after the update, I will consider bringing it right back to the store. So unacceptable that we as consumers are faced with this scam. Not like they are cheap. More than frustrated.

I had the same problem with my watch losing up to 20% of charge in an hour for no apparent reason. Tried unpairing and setting up as new watch but no change. It became apparent that it was the iPhone that was causing the problem. I did a “reset all settings” on the iPhone and after the initial watch syncing process which will drain battery, everything now appears to be back to normal. Hope this might help others.
