YouTube captions won’t default to on.

When in the YouTube app on my iPhone I am not able to get the closed captions to default to on. I have to manually turn them on every time I open the app. I have tried turning on the closed captions + SDH setting and that hasn’t changed anything.

I’ve tried restarting my phone. youtube and other websites in safari and other browsers do not show subtitles in full screen even when they were there not in full screen. This has been a problem for a while but I just ignored it. last night I tried to project a video with working subtitles to a Roku tv and the subtitles didn’t show up in fullscreen when on the tv, but did when just on my phone. After updating to 18.3 today, YouTube subtitles are not showing up at all, even on videos I know have subtitles.

Why are subtitles not showing on my iPhone 16 Pro Max Full screen mode? When go into full-screen mode, subtitles disappear. Tested in iPhone 16 pro max with iOS 18.1 both on Safari and Chrome and multiple websites including YouTube. Same problem from 2021 as described below. YouTube no longer works on closed captioned. Latest Software update took away closed captioned on YouTube and voice messages no longer have transparency to words for hearing impaired
