Cannot find root certificates in MacOS 15 (Sequoia). Where did Keychain Access go?

Before updating to macOS 15, I was using the Keychain Access app to troubleshoot something (by deleting redundant certificates).

After installing macOS 15, I am struggling to find

  1. the Keychain Access app.
  2. root certificates — I don't see them in the new Passwords app.

Where do I go on macOS 15 to access, edit, and/or remove digital certificates?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.0

Press Command + Spacebar to open spotlight. Then type "Keychain Access". It will appear for you to open from there.

Further, the app is found here:

/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Keychain Access.app

FWIW: I upgraded to 15.0.1, and I use Keychain Access a lot (for selected keys/passwords, I only keep them on my primary machine, not in the cloud, and in some cases I put certain keys on a separate keychain protected with a different password).

So I tried looking at Keychain Access on a secondary machine that was just upgraded to 15.0.1 (I'm keeping my primary machine on Sonoma for now). Looking at Keychain Access -> left pane "login" and "iCloud" keychains, if I select -> All Items I see lots of stuff. If I select "My Certificates" or "Certificates", however, there is nothing. I don't dig into certificates much so I don't know if things disappeared. I also looked at "System Keychains" for "System" and "System Roots" and there are certificates in there.

Maybe if you could specify where you expected to see the certificates: did you add them to My Certificates (which I find is empty) of system, system roots, login, or cloud?

Changes are happening with Keychain Access, Apple is making a transition to a newer password manager. (Must be those attempts to unify iOS and OS.) There are good reasons why we don't want certain keys, or notes or data, on all machines/devices or in the cloud. I also want to secure certain items behind another layer of password access: keychains on a local machine.

We'll have to learn a new scheme now. On Sequoia, when I was in Keychain Access:

  • The item File -> New Secure Note Item" is GONE from Sequoia.
  • I went to File -> New Password, the popup dialog appeared below, asking to use "Manage your passwords in the new password app? : Open Passwords, or Continue." Sigh. Leaning curve ahead.

I've never really understood this modern obsession with digging into certificates looking for problems. The only possible outcome of such an effort is new problems. Whatever problem you are having, I can absolutely guarantee that digging into your certificates is not a fix.

With respect, only deleting redundant certificates from a prior employer fixed an issue I was having with my new employer. Nothing else worked and nothing else can explain the fix. Given how universal your claim was, this single counterexample is enough to refute it.

OK. I'll give you that. I probably should have said, "I can absolutely guarantee that digging into your certificates is a bad idea."

I see an awful lot of people overcome with security paranoia who start digging deeply into the operating system looking for evidence of hackers who are controlling their lives. That is the scenario I was worried about.

However, I also see an awful lot of totally clueless IT admin people. Given that this is a forum primarily for consumer users, I neglected to consider that possibility. I give you credit for leaving the previous place. But keep your resumé updated. When you find a potential employer that laughs at the idea of using your personal device for work, take the offer.
