Switch iPad to child's account

I currently have an iPad that my son uses. It is currently on my adult account. Is it possible to convert it to my child's account without losing all of the installed apps and subscriptions? Or will we lose everything if we try to switch it to his account? Thank you.

iPad, iPadOS 18

It depends on what you mean by "switch to his account". You can certainly sign out of your Apple ID on the iPad and in with your child's account and nothing should be lost. But any apps and subscriptions purchased on that iPad will remain tied to your Apple ID and may require that ID to be entered for receiving updates etc. In addition, some services such as iCloud+ that are tied to your Apple ID will no longer be available from that iPad.

I hope that answers your question. If not, please post back.

Regards.

That is not the case, at least not when dealing with individual devices and settings. You can have, if memory serves, apps and other content from up to five different Apple IDs on a device at any one time (it may be higher than five). If you're set up with Family Sharing, which is the only official way to share iCloud+ among family members, that's an entirely different situation. If you are using Family Sharing, post back and someone can probably provide additional advice.

Thank you. My understanding was that if I logged out of my account, all of the apps and data would be deleted. Sounds like you are saying that is not the case. As for iCloud+, I thought that was shared among all family members. I'm guessing I'm wrong? I'm confused, to be honest. I would prefer my son to use his account rather than mine, but I also don't want to screw up everything that he does.
