Keychain access - Password for Pages file doesn't show
Hey there! Here's what happened:
- I created a pages document and protected it with a password. The password was saved to apple keychain.
- I always open the document with touch ID and over time have forgotten the password.
- Now I want to know the password to unlock the pages file! So I went to retrieve it from the apple keychain.
I did the following:
- I go to Keychain Access and open the login file of the pages document.
- There I have the option to "Show password".
- I select it and am then asked to enter my password.
- I enter my password, but nothing happens. The password remains not visible.
- I try to "Copy Password to Clipboard" (in the Keychain Access overview), but nothing gets copied to the clipboard after entering my password there.
- Now I don't know what to do. The password I enter is 100% correct! I know it because if I enter a wrong one, I get prompted that it's wrong.
- I check other entries and it turns out that for most of the other entries in the keychain passwords show. I say most of them because I have also found a couple of entries with the same issue (password doesn't show and can't be copied to the clipboard).
- Lastly, if I open the pages file I can still unlock it with touch ID, so the password is somehow accessible. But I cannot change it or deactivate the password protection, because for that I have to enter the password.
What can I do to see/know/recover the password for the pages file?
I tired finding a solution online but couldn't find any.
Please help!
