iPhone map navigation

Does the iPhone map app use gps for navigation, or does it use the cell network?

It uses the iPhone's inbuilt GPS system for the most accurate location services. Every service like Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, etc uses the iPhone's GPS system. It does not rely whatsoever on the cell network. Even if you were to manually disconnect your iPhone from Cellular service and Wifi, your current location will still be visible to you in Maps. (Assuming your phone has the map of your area downloaded on device) Back in the days of the iPhone 3G or so, Cell tower triangulation was used for location services, but nowadays every iPhone has a GPS system. This has been the case for the majority of the iPhone's existence.
