Hearing aids & iPhone mic

My bf wears Lucid U64 hearing aids. When we use FaceTime, he hears my audio through his Bluetooth connected hearing aids. His speech is delivered to me only through his iPhone 14 Pro Max microphone. This means he has to stay very close to his phone and often sounds static-y on the calls. Is there an external mic that would be compatible in this situation or any other resolution that anyone knows of?
