Photos library on external drive stopped opening after upgrade, error (3146). Same error after repairing as well.

My mac mini was upgraded to macOS Sequoia last night and I am trying to open my photos library which is on an external SSD. I'm getting error 3146. I tried repairing the library and also other troubleshooting steps I came across on Apple support but I'm unable to open it.

The drive's ownership is ignored, the drive is formatted as a AFPS volume and its and SSD not a flash drive or an SD card.

I even tried ejecting and replugging the drive. No go!

Any advice what I could do?

Thank you

Neerav

What external exclosure, drive dock or SATA adapter are you using with the Crucial BX500 SSD..?

(brand and model or link to the web-page)

Those Crucial BX500 SSDs are not known for their reliability when used internally or externally.

Again to protect the Photo Library, I would copy or clone the Photos Library to a different brand of SSD, before doing anything else.

Then we can attempt to troubleshoot the problem with the Crucial BX500, the external exclosure, drive dock or SATA adapter that you are using.

Apple removed a link to the drive enclosure on amazon saying its 'inappropriate'.
Anyway, the enclosure is a USB 3.2 gen 2 Sata 3 enclosure from Orico.

Yea' I had a look at the Orico link you posted and posted a link to the Sabrent enclosures that I use.

Which was also removed by the moderators...?

And, I rebooted my mac and launched the library again... it repaired and restored it self automagically!

That is good news.

Can someone explain what would change inside the SSD upon rebooting it either on safe mode or directly rebooting.

Hard to say for sure. Could have been anything from a bad connection to some file corruption of the Library.

Even apple care executive who suggested the first solution (Safemode) didn't have any complaints with the ssd.

I can only share what I have read here and on the web about the Crucial BX500 SSDs.

At this point, I strongly advise that you make a good backup of your Photos Library using a second external HDD or SSD to be on the safe side.

How can you be so sure that there is a problem with the ssds? Besides there were 5000 ratings all 5 stars on Amazon for this make.

Disk utility also mentions the volume is fine upon doing a First Aid check.
