My iPhone 15 plus can’t print from my Canon ImageClass Mf217w printer

I have the IPhone 15 plus iOS 18

my printer is the ImageClass Mf217w

I am not able to print from my phone from my Printer, Both are connected to my WiFi just fine. I can’t print wireless. I also have a MacBook Air, I can print from the computer from the printer just fine just can’t print from my phone, is it the iOS 18 the problem?

the Canon imageClass MF217w is an older printer but not too old, but Canon has discontinued the printer, I don’t think there is a firmware update for the iOS 18 on the printer? I think it might be an Ip address issue to my phone?

this is what I use to print Wireless from my phone from the printer (that is circled in red) that is the default print icon, it’s not connecting to the printer and my phone. Is it the printer or my iOS 18?

Before I did an update to the iOS 18 I was able to print wirelessly but when I tried to print after I did the update I couldn’t? Is there something turned off?

where is this print icon located in my phone settings? I have it as a default print icon on my phone.

I usually just print from the google chrome websites browsers or from my email box I’m not able to do that?

I can contact Canon cause the warranty is out they can’t help me anymore I have to find other ways to try to get help?

Im also trying Canon community help.

does anyone know how to reset ip address on a Canon imageClass series printers? 😆

A Canon MF217w is listed as a supported printer in About AirPrint - Apple Support (en-us, September 19, 2024). This means that it should work (without an additional app) if the printer and the iPhone are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). Compatibility should not be an issue.

Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

To begin with, after checking all settings/connections, you may want to try a full power-cycle sequence (do not forget the router):

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the iPhone, and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the iPhone and all other devices/computers.

AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections. The imageCLASS MF217w is capable of using Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi. So, if the printer is wirelessly connected to the router today, you could carry out a test with an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports of the router instead. This may be more stable, and can avoid some of the problems related to modern dual-band routers with "smart" device discovery and automatic band selection. The iPhone and other devices/computers can still use wireless for printing via the Wi-Fi router.

WPS would use either the push-button or the PIN method. If the Wi-Fi router has a push-button and you have used the push-button method successfully, that is it; the printer should be wirelessly connected to your router. WPS should automatically have configured the printer connection to the router.

The next thing to check would that that the iPhone is properly connected to this Wi-Fi router. If you can access the Internet, that would already be the case.

Now, when both the printer and the iPhone are connected to the Wi-Fi router, try to print using the short instructions in Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.

A special iOS app from the printer manufacturer should not be required to do all this.

If you need a manual for the Wi-Fi router, please check whether you can see a model name/number on the router. If so, post back with this, and we can try to help you locate a user's guide. Important: Do not post a serial number, a MAC (network) number, access codes, or any other personal information.

The only device (modem/gateway/router) of interest would be the one that you are connecting wirelessly to from the printer/iPhone/computer.

If I understand you correctly, this device has a push button for WPS. You also mentioned, that you had used the push-button method to connect the printer. I assume that this was according to the Setting Up Connection Using WPS Push Button Mode section (step 1. to 8.) in https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART116209. Do not try the PIN method in this case.

If so, that should be OK. The printer should now be connected to the Wi-Fi network.

The iPhone and the computer should be connected to this Wi-Fi network (using their normal connection methods). The Internet should also be accessible from the iPhone and the computer via this wireless network.

At this stage, what happens if you try to print from the iPhone (Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support)?

The Ethernet cable connection mentioned earlier was only intended as a test. This by using a temporary Ethernet cable to a router near the printer. If that is not possible, please try to make the existing equipment and wireless setup work first.

I have Lost the printer software for setting up the printer WiFi wireless or with a Ethernet cable. I would have to try to find the Ethernet cable or buy a new one, and buy a USB C printer cable to connect to our MacBook Air if needed. Our WiFi Router does have WPS on it, the router is a Cox (Cable company network) I think they may have other Routers that does WPS on them? I’ll have to ask and maybe switch out the router that I have now.

the Canon support link you gave me, what am I supposed to look for from that link?

the Router box isn’t in the same room with the printer, its hooked up in our laundry room where Cox had installed the router system, it’s in a junction like box with 3 or 4 outlets and another different router that we don’t use, it came with the house( it’s a smart house build design). I’m not able to hook up a Ethernet cable from the printer to the router, I’m not sure but there may be a phone jack outlet in the room? If there is I think I could check if there is a signal on it? Or have to have someone come out and either install a phone outlet or activate the outlet?

I have tried to follow the canon link help for setting up a WPS CONNECTION with my printer, I was able to connect with WPS But not setting up the WPS PIN code.

in the instructions steps,…

it says Access your Wireless router from a computer and display the screen for entering a WPS pin code

How can I get access from a wireless router from my computer?

note: I don’t have a wireless router, the router is wired ( I mentioned before, the router is in a different room of the house and is plugged into the already installed internet wifi system that came with the house ) plus Im trying to print from my iPhone from the printer not from my computer? How Do I Register the generated PIN code to the wireless Router?

The images are out of order but I hope you can figure out what I’m trying to show you from my printer?

I tried to do a software or firmware update from my computer to the printer with a printer cable with a USB C end, the software updates on the canon website only had OS 14 and below not the current OS Version 15. The updates didn’t do any good and didn’t see any difference. I’m still not able to print from my phone from the printer. I even did a Wi-Fi reset? That didn’t do any good.

I checked with a Ethernet cat cable, and discovered that the router already has a Ethernet cable that is connected to another unit device that I do not want to disrupt any connection. The device Unit has permanently attached to the Ethernet cat cable which is connected to the Router (Cox cable router, it has a WPS button on the router).

again I have lost the owners manual and the Software set up CD

How Do I refer to getting started to configure the wireless lan settings.

There may be some confusion regarding what the different devices are called. Is the wired device possibly a cable modem (handling the incoming Internet connection), which would then be wired by Ethernet to an already existing Wi-Fi router? If so, the latter would handle the internal wireless communication with your printer, iPhone(s) and computer(s). In dubio, please provide information about model names/numbers for the devices involved.

First of all just letting you know that I can’t contact Canon support for this printer cause it’s out of warranty and I think it’s been discontinued and they won’t help me anymore, I have to find help elsewhere, such as trying here.

I also called my Cox Cable company and they switched me over to a different department which was “home care” where they can handle with special tech support stuff, they did try to help me but couldn’t, they asked me to try calling Apple tech support.

what Device Models do you need information from? The Routers and the printer or my computer and IPhone?

I can give you the computer and my iPhone information but not the router, maybe the printer,

my iPhone is the 15 plus,IOS 18 the Computer is the Mac Book Air OS Sequoia

printer, again is the Canon ImageClass217w

I can’t give You the router information cause I don’t know what kind of router it is? It’s a Cox Cable router that our cable company gave us I don’t know if there is a serial number on it? But it is wired into the Internet WiFi service system. There is another little device Box that is hooked to the router that has the Ethernet cable coming out from it which is hooked to the router. It’s called Nokia, that’s all I know or can tell from it, I don’t know what it does??
