network setup question with ipod or apple phone

Hi,

How does Internet on ipad or apple phone by using internet with mac computer? I mean ipad or apple phone can not access internet, it need to use internet from mac computer. (Mac computer can access internet directly). Is there guidance for the setup for apple phone and mac computer? Thanks.
