How to Fix iPhone 16 Pro Max Camera Button Issues?

So I have the iphone 16 ProMax. I thought my camera button wasn’t working, however, not being used to the new phone yet, I noticed a 2nd lower button on the right-hand side of my phone. I didn’t realize it because the button is inward on the phone to the touch. It is not an outward button that you can easily feel like the other buttons on the phone. With all that said, it is the lower inward button on right side of phone that opens up the Camera feature. Hope this info helps

I used to have the same issue. After speaking with Apple support, they asked me if i have a case and screen protector on my phone. I do have both, but i never thought the issue might be from any of those, i was more concerned about the camera settings and files imported from the backup to my new 16 pro max. So basically, i was betting on that to be the issue. But clearly wasn’t the case.

I had a screen protector fitted on the first day i received the phone, from Flolab, one of the best screen protectors out there. Dropped my phone, smashed the screen protector and decided to replace it with a new matte screen protector wich i got from Amazon ( Ksleri 2 Pack Matte Screen Protector, in case anyone is interested ), instead of waiting for a couple of good days till Flolab sends a new one.

And, surprise surprise, my camera control button works flawleslly now ! No reset, nothing changed, etc. Before i removed the damaged screen protector, tried again, and i had to press twice for the camera control button to register and open the camera. Now, one press and jumps straight into camera.

So if you guys are facing the same issues, i suggest you start with your screen protector, as that’s the culprit. Don’t know how it affects the button, but obviously it does.

Have you updated to the latest iOS version just released last week? Many users are reporting the issue fixed after updating. Double check you Camera Control settings in the App. Sometimes switching it to double click and back to single click resolves the issue.

But be careful what you wish for. Some users are finding that single click is too easy and the iPhone is accidentally turning on in a pocket and now draining the battery. I tried single click for a week and switched back to double clicking this afternoon.

I had same issue on iphone 16 pro. Solution for me was to go to Settings / Display& brightness then scroll right to the bottom where there is a toggle for Camera Control « Require screen on »

Mine was set to on, if I turn it off then one click camera control from lock screen magically works!

I did a reset of the settings on my new iPhone 16 Pro, and it now works on a single click.

However, it doesn't activate the camera function if the screen is off, you have to wake up the phone first, and then the single-click works.

This solved it for me….go to Settings / Display & Brightness scroll down to Camera Control and where it says Require Screen on, toggle this off and hey presto Camera Control works from lock screen.

Why Apple decided to put this control in a different menu to the camera goodness knows, but it is the solution. 

I took it to the Apple Store; their Genius team could figure it out. Prior to that, I did a system reset and then a full reset. To my knowledge, it's a defective phone. I can use the camera button to take pictures or videos, but I cannot use the soft press whatsoever. Since I have insurance, I'm going through my mobile carrier to get the phone replaced. This phone is to new for them to tell you its a software or mechanical issue. You have warranty fight them through there

Same here. iPhone 16 Pro natural titanium 256gb with the latest iOS (full installed). With only one click there is an animation on the display but only two clicks are needed to launch the camera app. I’ve already friend going to settings and selecting “two clicks” and then going back to one but nothing changed. This is a software bug.

hello ! i have the same issue. 16 Pro Max 256 - desert , here . same probleme. sometimes working with 1 click , sometimes need to press 2 times to open the camera.but , i have saw something.last night i made a clean restart.i delete everything and i started like a new phone.everything worked flawless.after that , i upload my last back-up ... the problem return . i think it is not an harware problem.i think it is a software problem

Go to

Settings --> Camera --> Camera Control --> ensure that the Camera app is ticked and not the None

Unfortunately I’m in the same boat and neither settings reset, full reset, or even factory reset (with Mac) has fixed the issue. I updated today to 18.1 with the hopes it would help, but my camera control button is still dead.

I found single click was too easily activated and I switched to double click. The camera was coming on in my pocket and draining the battery. If you want to try single click, sometimes switching back to double click and then to single click again the resolves the issue.
