help with booting from usb when apple only allows you to lower the security to OS trusted by apple

So I would like to boot kali Linux on my MacBook Air m2 2022 and it doesn’t show in startup options, so I go to recovery mode and try lowing the security

i have lowered the security, but it still doesn’t show. I have installed the arm version of Kai Linux, so it is supported on my Mac I believe and it just won’t show, I presume as the security isn’t allowing it. How can I lower the security?

I see nothing on the Kali Linux site to indicate that they have a version that supports Apple Silicon Macs. The ARM version currently available does not list any such support, and there's much more to running on given hardware than just being ARM compatible. It may seem to install, but it may well not have the drivers necessary to actually run.

In any case, I do not believe there is any user-accessible way to change security settings on a Silicon Mac other than what is provided in the utility. If the "reduced security" is insufficient, then there may be no way to get your edition of Linux to run. You can, however, take the subject up on the Kali Linux forum and see if anyone there has a workaround.

I wasn't able to find that distro, but it appears you have the right thing. That's at least a step in the right direction. If it didn't work with Etcher, you can try the other instructions here:

If that still doesn't work, I'd again suggest taking it up on their own forums.
