How to remove a Time Machine password

I have forgotten my Time Machine password. I left a hint, but there are three problems:

  1. My password begins with a lowercase letter, but Mac won’t let me fill in a field without capitalizing the first letter. So there is no way to type the password correctly.
  2. I understand my hint, but it doesn’t work, probably because of #1.
  3. When I type in an input box, I see only black dots, so there is no way to detect typos.

My conclusion is that if you protect your Time Machine with a password,, at some point in the future when you need to restore data, you won’t be able to do it, no matter what. Do not password-protect the Time Machine unless you want to lose all your data.
