How to open photos in preview separately

I want to have open photos in separate preview files when opened. NOT have them together with a sidebar.

Having them in one window makes it difficult to edit when working on more than one photo at a time.

You can see in my attached photo that 2 open photos are opened together seen in the side bar...like to have them opened in separate preview files when i click on each as on my old imac.

Why are they together in one window when clicked on separately?

Ahh-- found it!

Go to Preview Settings>Images

Interestingly I seem to have "same window" chosen, even though it did what I showed you, earlier. Try "own window." That will have each one open in its own screen sized window that you can re-size.

Try opening each picture separately, rather than selecting and opening them together. When I do that, I get each image in a separate window.

You can use the Windows menu item to send the windows to separate corners, or just move them around.

Opening the pictures together causes Preview to treat them like pages in a book. You use the sidebar to select the page.

I hadn't tried this before, and I think I'm going to find this useful! Thanks!
