Keyboard on Macbook Pro changes when using the iPhone via iPhone Mirroring

I am facing the same issue.

I have several keyboards defined on my iPhone under Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards:

1. "Deutsch (Schweiz)"
2. "Gboard"
3. "Emoji-Symbols"

In order for iPhone Mirroring to use my Macs Keyboard Layout ("Deutsch (Schweiz)"), I have to remove the "Gboard" keyboard and open the "Deutsch (Schweiz)" keyboard and change it from "QWERZ- Deutsch" to "QWERZ".

I don't understand why having the "Gboard" keyboard as second or third keyboard option reverts the keyboard layout to American English, even though I haven't defined this anywhere (not even in the Gboard). This seems like a software bug to me.

When using iPhone Mirroring, your Mac might default to the iPhone's keyboard layout. To fix this, go to System Settings > Keyboard and ensure the correct layout is selected for your Mac. Also, check your iPhone’s keyboard settings to match the Mac’s layout while mirroring.

Thanks. I can confirm that this resolved the issue. I was also able to keep my iPhone AZERTY keyboard set to bilingual mode with both French and English enabled; I did not need to delete the emoji keyboard either.

For anyone else struggling, I can also add that I was also facing persistent issues with failed connections to my iPhone. A suggested fix on Reddit was to disconnect then reconnect the iCloud account on your Mac but this didn't fix the issue for me.

I think Apple puts some restrictions on 3rd party keyboards that may be involved here. You can report the problem to them via

and also let the makers of Gboard know.

Does this happen any place other than WhatsApp?

I don't have any third party keyboards installed however so maybe this is not the issue in your setup.

I'm having the same issue. My mac default keyboard is AZERTY but I use the QWERTY option on my mac. My phone also uses only QWERTY keyboards. When I mirror, no matter what, the mac keyboard types AZERTY on my phone. I tried every solution in this thread and nothing works.

Apple please address this issue.

I believe you can change that in settings but if not you should reset your device.

I got the same issue and I believe my settings are correct. I want to use the bilingual keyboard on my iPhone, but even with that I have the correct layout selected. Any further ideas?

What do you mean by synced the phone with the mac? With a usb cable?
