Siri not working like before after iOS 18 update

After updating my iPhone 14 Pro to iOS 18 I noticed that when I ask Siri simple questions like, "what's the forecast" or "temperature outside", Siri will only show the answer on the screen and does not verbally tell me the answer like before. I have restarted my phone several times and checked the settings. Setttings are all ok.

This update has been terrible for Siri. For me, Siri doesn't hear me even if I'm shouting. And the notifications now are extremely vague. Instead of reading the messages it just says "mail sent a message" or "voice sent a long message" . Siri is hard of hearing and lame compared to how well it used to work.

Hi all,

I found this solution. Somehow the update messes up with the sound recognition function. I hope that the Apple team will fix it soon.

First go to Settings, then Accessibility, then scroll down to hearing and select "Sound recognition". Turn it off.

Siri is working again! Awesome

I hope it helps. It took me a long time to figure it out, including reinstalling the iOS but without success. Take care!

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 18, same issue here.

siri gaslighting me is the funniest:

Me: "Hey Siri, turn on do not disturb" (do not disturb is not on)

Siri: "Do not disturb is already on." (Turns on do not disturb)

Me: "Hey siri, turn on transparency." (Noice cancellation is on)

Siri: "Transparency is already on." (Turns on transparency)

and it goes on.

Siri is not responding correctly to phone commands while driving. It either dials the wrong number or doesn't respond at all. And in general, operates much more erratically than before iOS 18. (I also upgraded to iPhone 16 as well. Not sure if that is part of the problem.)

Does Apple monitor this feed? And if not, how to communicate with them?

When my wife's iPhone 14 Pro stopped responding to "Hey Siri," we went to Settings, then Accessibility. Then scrolled down to Siri, then made sure that under "Spoken Responses," the setting for "Prefer Spoken Responses" was ON. My wife's phone was set to Automatic, and Siri wasn't responding. Now that we switched it to "Prefer Spoken Responses," it works!

Hope this helps with your phone.
