trying to view photos on macbook from sd card/dont want to down load them

some photos are raw file from camera

I can pop my SD card in and see my Z8's jpgs icons, and I can use ⌘-spacebar to view them in QuickLook without importing them. Do you have RAW files? My Mac doesn't support my Nikon's uncompressed RAW files. So QuickLook and Preview and Photos don't work to view them. I can see them in Nikon's own NX Studio and in Adobe's Lightroom, but not in apps that depend on the Mac's routines.


Every company, and even every model of camera, has a completely different form of RAW files. Apple is not trying too hard to keep up with building decoding routines for each new one to come around.


Adobe makes a "DNG" converter that can convert almost all RAW files to their dng format that most viewers can open. I don't use it, but I've heard that it's free and easy:
