What causes my MacBook Pro to restart after sleep?

  1. Close the lid of the MacBook Pro over night
  2. In the morning open the lid and the laptop restarts with displaying the debug report: Sleep/Wake hang detected @IOPMrootDomain.cpp:13000
  3. This is happening every morning after I upgraded to Sequoia OS.

Is there a fix?

panic(cpu 1 caller 0xfffffff022e8c0cc): Sleep/Wake hang detected @IOPMrootDomain.cpp:13000

This has been happening to me for the past month. I've noticed reports from people using an external monitor. I also use a 4K Dell monitor. This seems to confuse the Mac quite a bit, even before 2020.

Has anyone found a solution? I've been running Sequoia fine but since about a week ago I've been restarting during sleep with the same error on restart. Upgrading to 15.2 didn't solve the issue either. I haven't installed any new software or added any new hardware before it started happening.

2019 Macbook Pro 16" (Intel).

Apple Care told me they won't help until I upgrade to Sequoia. Sigh.

  • WiFi is never on mbpro is wired only.
  • My mbpro is connected to TWO external monitors, a 24 LG Ultragear and a 32" LG HDR 4k
  • "Automatically Adjust Screen Brightness" is off

By chance is this only happening on 16" Intel macbooks?

These MacBooks have some issues when using external monitors. I use a Dell 4K 27" monitor with USB-C, recommended by Apple, and yet the computer's performance drops significantly in many areas. This has been happening since it was brand new, also occurred with my 2018 MacBook, and happens to a friend who has the same 2019 MacBook. Interestingly, if I mirror the screen to a TV over WiFi, this doesn't happen. It works fine. The issue seems to be with the cable.

Apple support is inefficient regarding this, at least here in Brazil. They only know how to follow protocols. Once, they said they would escalate my case to the engineering team in the U.S., but I never heard back. It's frustrating.

In the past few months, the computer's performance has declined even more. Here we go, falling into planned obsolescence once again.

Same on my i9 Macbook Pro 2019 with Sequoia 15.2 (since 15.0).

I have updated all deeper software such as VPN (Tunnelbear), Parallels Desktop or Paragon NTFS.

PowerNap is disabled. I have reset SMC and booted in SafeMode but the problem still persists.

I have no peripherals like external Monitor. Does anyone have a solution?

Same here, started a week or two ago. 2019 i9 MBP 16" connected to a Dell Ultrasharp U3425WE.

I still have the problems. It doesn't seem to be related to Bootcamp after all. I reinstalled macOS Seqouia (15.3.1) on a different partition and did not install any programs or make any settings here. The problem occurred too after a few days! So a reinstall of macOS will not bring any improvement. I reported the case to Apple Support. Maybe they can find a solution. I'll keep you updated.

No peripherals / no external monitor / only Apple Keyboard was connected via Bluetooth. MacBook Pro 16" 2019 i9 was on WiFi during standby.
