Video screen recording. No record button?
I’m reading that to do a video recording of your screen I need to swipe down from the top right on my iPad and press the record button. It’s not there. How do I access it?

You may need to add the Screen Recording control to your Control Centre.
iPadOS 17.x and earlier
Settings > Control Centre > [More Controls] Screen Recording - tap the green "+" icon to add the control.
That's it, you're done.

Controls are added from the Control Centre itself - the process being somewhat more complicated than earlier versions of iPadOS...
Swipe downwards from the top-right corner of the screen to expose the Control Centre - then tap the "+" icon:
Next, tap + Add a Control:
Next, select the Screen Recording button - then tap any clear area of the screen to finish adding the control to the Control Centre:
