iPhone 16 Pro on IOS 18.0 not working with Kenwood stereo Apple Carplay

This is my first time posting here. I recently upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro and am finding that the after-market Kenwood stereo model DMX 4707s I just put in is not working with it very well. I was able to get Carplay to work, but the phone/car disconnect after 5 minutes. I've tried a bunch of things such as updating the firmware on the stereo and having my phone forget the device and vice versa.

This morning the stereo seemed to malfunction. It was displaying the year 1999 and I could not get my phone to connect to Carplay although Bluetooth worked. In fact, at this point, when I go to the Carplay settings I'm no longer seeing the stereo. (See picture attached.)
