I had forgotten my MacBook Air password. I set up a new recovery key, but the recovery key was too long to be accepted by my MacBook. Are there any other options to try? Thanks.

Were you using Filevault? If you were, then regardless of the reason it is not accepting it, it absolutely must accept it or the contents are lost. See --> Protect data on your Mac with FileVault - Apple Support
Also note that Apple uses the terms "Recovery Key" in several contexts (including Apple account recovery) so make sure you are using the correct one.
