Siri not responding on iPhone 16 Pro Max

As title says, Siri is not working. It only works if I press the side button, not by me saying "hey siri" etc.

I have turned siri off and back on again and done the 5 phrases to set it up and still nothing. I have changed the language, changed the voice, changed to prefer spoken response' and still nothing.

Obviously on IOS18.

Has anyone else had this issue because it is driving me mad. £1,400 for a phone and it doesn't work properly!

As suggested here 7 Proven ways to Fix Siri not responding on iPhone 16 pro Max I went to Siri in settings, there clicked on Siri responses and choose prefer spoken responses instead of automatic, after this as suggested did a force restart and now it's working fine.

I had all the same problems as everyone else and I tried one more thing remove Siri dictation history so I tried that and all of a sudden my Siri started working properly so try that and see if it works for you. I don’t know how long it’ll last before it happens again, but it just worked again and it did didn’t have to reset my phone try it.

My brand new Apple 16 Pro is also giving me trouble when verbally asking Siri to do something… I have turned the phone on and off/rebooted several times and at least once a week she decides to take a sabbatical. This ****** me off because I’ve never had a problem with my iPhone 11 and after five years, I decided to upgrade to this what they call enhanced Siri. What I call her as a dumb B…CH.

does anyone know if this is a problem with the OS or is it a problem with the 16 pro? Thank you.

Hi all, I sat on the phone with Apple Support and Verizon support for about an hour plus yesterday only to still have the same recurring problem with my 16 pro today. Siri again, acting like I’m not even talking to her. I said something nasty to her, but she did respond, saying “I’m not gonna respond to that…”

From Oct 23:

"Updating from yesterday. Did waht support said, worked last evening,

Siri was responding with voice. Today, she isn't hearing me. I see the

speech thing for Siri when saying "Siri Call xxxx" and then it does

nothing. I repeat Siri multiple times, and no bubble at all, just not

responding. Did the other suggestions to turn on Content and Privacy

under Scren time, restarted, still same issue. I decided I'm not waiting

to see if an update fixes it, I've had the phone less than 10 days.

Taking it to the Apple Store Sunday for a replacement. Not playing these

games. "

So the update. I took it to the Apple store and swapped it on the 27th. When I started it, I updated it with default settings, I did not do a transfer of data from the old phone I set it up as default. I used it like that for 2 days. Then I did do a full data transfer from the old phone. No problems at all with Siri and I tested it a lot. I updated to 18.1 yesterday, and still no issues with Siri, response is quick, she hears me across the room, responds with MmmHmm even when I just say Siri. Works fine through my Alpine bluetooth in my truck (I don't have carplay).

So one or a combination of these things solved the problems far as I can tell. I will post again if Siri starts being a b**thead again.

The one thing I haven't seen many people saying they tried is a complete reset of the phone. When I had mine replaced with a new one after a week, I did not restore the content of the old phone over during the new setup, I skipped that and set it up default. I used it for two days that way and had zero issues with Siri on 18.01. Then I migrated my content from the old phone to the new and still didn't have any problem. And then updated to 18.1 and still no issues.

I can't say for certain if it was the whole new phone replacement, or just because I set it up default at first without migrating content, but I'd try to do a full wipe and setup again without content migration, and try that for a couple days. Of course, make sure you either have a backup or all the data on a different phone.
