Most of iTunes library greyed out on PC, but not iPhone.

Almost all of my iTunes library is greyed out on my PC, however I can play all these songs on my iPhone. I would like to use my PC to easily see everything and check or uncheck songs I want to sync to my phone. I would also like to make playlists on my computer, but can't because everything is grey and I can't click on them. Why is this happening? I have read multiple threads on this topic and none of my music is explicit, I have authorized my computer, I have synced manually and through iCloud, I can go into the iTunes folder on my computer, click on the song and play it that way, etc. This has been the case for a few years now and it's getting really old. I'm not a fan of iTunes, but I'm so invested in it that I don't know how I can switch to something else.
