On my iMac, cannot send mail, smtp keeps showing me offline

I deleted mail and re-installed, but is still showing me offline for outgoing mail. I have checked passwords, incoming mail is fine.

Read If you can’t send or receive email on Mac - Apple Support. Passwords are only one factor among many others.
