iOS 18 apps running when iPhone is off

After updating to iOS 18, I noticed my screen time skyrocketing. Taking a deeper look, I saw that the last application I used before turning off the phone for the night keeps running even though the phone is off. Anybody else experienced this?

The most likely answer is that you didn’t actually turn off the phone, you only locked the screen, which does not stop all activity on the phone. A phone that is actually turned off (hold Volume Up and the right Side button until Slide to Power Off appears, and do that) shuts down everything except Bluetooth, which is left on so Find My will still work. But Bluetooth uses no measurable power.
