brand new iPhone 16 pro battery not recognize

Setting up new iPhone 16 Pro. I get an error message that the battery is not recognized. Could be not genuine Apple part (purchased directly from Apple), installed incorrectly. I assume I cannot access the battery?

If you’re receiving the “Unknown Part” message on your iPhone that you purchased from Apple, then you probably have a hardware issue with your device.

According to Apple, an Unknown message can appear for several reasons, including when the replacement part:

  • Is non-genuine
  • Isn't functioning as expected
  • Hasn't been verified and linked to your iPhone after the repair was completed
  • Has been modified or is otherwise unable to be verified

Take your iPhone back to your nearest Apple Store or where you purchased the device to have it taken a look at. Apple will either cover the defect and repair your iPhone under the limited warranty, or in some regions, you can return the iPhone and exchange for a new one within the purchase timeframe. ⚛️

My iPhone 16 Pro had the same message, followed by resetting itself continually a few minutes at a time and asking me to repair the battery. Called support and they told me it had to be taken to the store. Diagnostics in the store showed multiple failures in the device and the store is sending it back for investigation. The phone was only 3 weeks old. Be warned if your phone isn't in the 2 week period of return, you are subject to all Apple warranty rules including sending it away for repair. I'm without my new phone and anxiously waiting to see what will happen and when I'll have a phone again.
