iCloud deleted my Desktop files

I uploaded/Moved files from my PC to iCloud and now the local files in File Explorer disappeared from my PC. I wanted to copy them to the iCloud to mirror it so I can access them anywhere. Can I do anything i.e. Stop it? or do I have to wait until it is done (17 of 650GBs)
