Migration assistant can't see volumes

My MacBook pro just had a new logic board installed on it and a fresh operating system wipe I have attached a backup to one of the USB ports which I can see but then when I select the backup no volumes appear with migration assistant

If the Mac's operating system is earlier than the MacOS on your backup, the migration might not work. Do you know what these versions are?


If the Mac has an earlier version, you can bypass the migration on the initial backup and install one generic admin user, call it admin, just use a name that is not one of the users on your previous system. Then you can upgrade the Mac's MacOS to the latest it can run. Then try running Migration Assistant with the backup drive connected.
