How to reset the password to sign in on my Apple TV?

There are several different passwords (on the models A1625 or later):

• Apple Account password: If you forgot your Apple Account password - Apple Support
• AirPlay password: You configure this in Settings. Adjust settings for AirPlay on Apple TV - Apple Support
• Wi-Fi password: You configure this on your router. See your router manual.
• Restrictions PIN code. Set up parental controls on Apple TV - Apple Support
• App account passwords (third party apps).
• Apple Account password of a secondary or former user, when App Store app wants to update an app, that was installed by that other user. Then a strategy can be to delete and reinstall that app on your own account.
• TV provider sign-in credentials for apps that they authorize access for. Set up single sign-on with your TV provider on Apple TV - Apple Support

Why do you think you need to reset the password? Have you forgotten it?

The legacy models may give sign-in errors that do not point to a wrong password. Resetting wouldn’t fix that.

• There is no longer support for iCloud services on legacy devices [A1469 or earlier]. Just skip that.
• There is support for iTunes Store services, but that may need a special procedure.

2. Try the ‘Other…’ option instead of selecting a listed discovered network. Especially if the password has been changed.
3. For Apple TV (4th generation or earlier), verify that the router or access point isn’t set to use WPA3, as only device models from ~2018 or later support that. Instead use ‘WPA2/WPA3 Transitional’. Some users report that they had to set ‘WPA2’-only first.

For me, there was a catch 22 between my iTunes account and my Apple ID account, both of which are associated with the same email address. I originally subscribed to Apple TV using my iTunes account. The apple.com account didn't show the purchase, but when I wanted to re-authorize Apple TV on my Roku, the QR code directed me to the apple.com account rather than to the iTunes account. (Or it could be I misinterpreted something along the way. It was a long journey because I interpreted the statement "You can only have one Apple ID per email account" literally. I do know I can log into iTunes only with my iTunes credentials and not my Apple ID credentials.)

This seems to be about the Wi-Fi password, though. Which is configured in the router, not with Apple or Apple devices.

This also seems to be about a legacy model Apple TV box, per design of the message, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Could it be that the issue is with the matching remote that is lacking or not working?

For the legacy models Apple TV box (3rd generation) [A1469] or earlier, use the old style Apple Remote (aluminum) [A1294].
